Synopsis:

When plunging enrollment forces two rival high schools to merge, two class presidents must work together to make the schools unite. But when a mutual crush emerges, they’ll both have to figure out what they want and where their loyalties lie before they become the most hated people at school. Meg Williams is on the way to making her dreams come true. As the incoming Junior class president for Hirono High School, all she needs are a few more As and an excellent college recommendation letter, then she can leave Huntersville, California, and her ghosts behind. Or, at least she was on track until the school district decided to combine Hirono with their rival, Davies High School. Now, Meg is wandering the pristine hallways of Davies High, her life plan threatened by Hirono’s queen mean girl, Freya Allenson, and the maddeningly perfect Chris Chaves, Davies High School’s class president. When it turns out Huntersville’s Golden Boy won’t just step down, Meg begrudgingly accepts that they’ll have to work together for the year. Worse still, escalating pranks between the rival classmates and a developing crush threaten to throw Meg even further off course. As homecoming draws near, both Meg and Chris will have to decide where their loyalties lie.

Review

4 STARS

I am hosting a tour spot for The Homecoming War by Addie Woolridge. I really liked this one, and am giving it 4 stars. It was such a cute contemporary romance. It was a very cozy read with great interpersonal relationships, and rather calm - there for no horrific tone swings that usually comes with the territory of YA romance - and I GREATLY appreciated that. For a YA, I found myself as an adult adult (25 almost 26 now AAAAH) enjoying the writing! I found that it was a book that is enjoyable, and appropriate for all ages and it's writing didn't hold it back.
Overall, the characters are likeable and thoughtful - as well as intelligent, especially for their age. It was refreshing to read about intelligent teenagers that wouldn't frustrate the reader, and these character's were far from capricious. Especially Meg, she was very multifaced and still struggling with anxious avoidant and attachment style due to grief.
The romance is so fluffy and cinnamonroll, it's nice to see just a cute romance where everything is really simple. I loved Chris, and he was incredibly patient.

Overall, The Homecoming War is a very quick cozy read that is great for just chilling on the couch and getting through the day with warm fuzzy feelings! I myself never went to homecoming, but I think that helped me enjoy this book a lot more in a way that was living vicariously. It's definitely a palate cleanser!
