Synopsis:

#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Preston is back with another pulse-pounding, twisty read!

Haunted by the past . . .

Penny’s trying to forget about her ex, Nash. His father was arrested for the brutal murder of four teenagers on Devil’s Night last year. Penny’s parents have forbidden her to have anything to do with Nash or his family. It’s hard not to think of what happened as spooky season gets underway–but she’s trying. That stops when she goes to the Halloween store with her friends to find a costume. What she finds instead is ripped from a horror movie: a girl from school bleeding out on the floor of a dressing room. Stabbed. Is a copycat killer on the loose? The adults are saying no. But Penny knows better.

Review

↪My Rating: 4.00

★★★★☆

I am hosting a tour spot for The Haunting by Natasha Preston. My review is based of the uncorrected epub ARC proof of this book. I am voluntarily giving this review, and all my thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book has big Halloween energy, it had a lot of fun settings for the characters to interact in and solve the murders. It contains a lot of well written terror and grief that the character's have to go through organically, while also still facing the normal teen troubles of high school. This had heavy Halloween Michaël Meyers vibes. But it still kept it YA, which is great news for anyone who shies away from gore and too much intensity within thrillers. It felt very accessible in terms of who it was targeted towards.

The pacing was fast, and the plot was very succinct, tied with with forbidden romance. A little boy crazy. The ending is abrupt, and predictable but still engaging.
